Announcements
Announcements let you communicate with all users in your organization through the InnerWorks mobile app. Use them for platform updates, organizational messages, or encouragement.
Creating an announcement
- Navigate to Announcements in the admin dashboard
- Click New Announcement
- Fill in the details:
| Field | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Short headline for the announcement | Yes |
| Body | Full announcement text | Yes |
| Priority | low, normal, high, or urgent | Yes (default: normal) |
| Starts At | When the announcement becomes visible | No (default: immediately) |
| Expires At | When the announcement is automatically hidden | No (default: never) |
- Click Save (saves as draft) or Publish (makes immediately visible)
Priority levels
Priority affects how the announcement appears in the mobile app:
| Priority | Display |
|---|---|
| Low | Standard card, gray left border |
| Normal | Standard card, gray left border |
| High | Prominent card, amber left border |
| Urgent | Prominent card, red left border, displayed first |
All priorities appear as dismissible cards on the user’s Today screen, above their daily practices.
Publishing and unpublishing
- Draft announcements are saved but not visible to users
- Published announcements are visible to all users in your organization
- You can toggle between published and draft states at any time
- Unpublishing an announcement immediately hides it from all users
Expiration
If you set an Expires At date, the announcement will automatically stop appearing to users after that date. This is useful for time-limited messages (e.g., event reminders, deadlines).
Expired announcements remain in your admin list for reference but are no longer shown to users.
User interaction
When users see an announcement on their Today screen:
- They can read the full content
- They can dismiss the announcement (mark as read)
- Dismissed announcements don’t reappear for that user
- Unread announcements persist until dismissed or expired
Read tracking
The admin dashboard shows how many users have read each announcement:
- Total users — Number of users in your organization
- Read count — Number of users who dismissed the announcement
- Read percentage — Proportion of users who have seen the message
This helps you gauge the reach of your communications.
Deleting announcements
To permanently remove an announcement:
- Find the announcement in the list
- Click Delete
- Confirm the deletion
Deleted announcements are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
Best practices
- Keep announcement titles concise — they’re displayed on mobile screens
- Use high or urgent priority sparingly, to avoid notification fatigue
- Set expiration dates for time-sensitive messages
- Use announcements for organizational updates, not individual communication
- Review read tracking to understand which messages resonate with your team
